This vessel exemplifies Empoli’s mid-century glass production, particularly the genie bottle form exported heavily to Western markets from the 1950s through the 1970s. Cased glass, with its layered construction of colored and clear glass, creates the saturated depth of its sky-blue hue.
The extreme proportions, bulbous teardrop base countered by the impossibly narrow neck, represent Empoli’s playful exaggeration of classical vessel forms. Produced by regional houses such as Stelvia or Cristalleria Artistica Toscana, these sculptural bottles occupy a fascinating middle ground between decorative object and functional vessel.
